Songbird / Joelle Taylor

They blind song birds.
Sellotape their wings to their sides,
bind their legs together,
and still they sing.
Listen: can you hear them?

There is a room.
A small and warm room
in which cages,
miniature and gilded,
hang in their thousands,
swaying in the breath of suppressed song.

Lean closer.
